DEVELOPMENT ISSUE #3,126 - Add Instructions and/or directions to website pages
Reported by Don Abernathy (DVA8757) on 08/06/2010 14:28 ET

Issue Type Enhancement
Target Version 2.2
Issue Description So many of the links on this site have very few instructions or directions on what they are intended to provide, what input is required by the individual and what results are expected to be provided. Pages such as "Find a Flight", "Route Plotter" and "Flight Assignments" have little or no instructions on what is required or expected. It's like you have to try them out to see what their purpose is for, even if doing so may sign you up in the Private Pilot (PPL) course when you didn't really mean to do it.

I probably need to upgrade the instructions on flight assignments, but I don't understand how you went through two prompts to create a flight academy course.

As for the Flight Academy, it was more to see what was on the other side (after enrolling) in order to determine if I wanted to participate in the program or not. Since there was no description of what the academy curriculum so I had to venture through the enrollment part to see. Had there been some information that described what the academy was about, who it was intended for and such on the page, I wouldn't have enrolled and then later withdrawn. Also, once enrolled, I could never figure out what to do--I have since withdrawn but from what I remember it was a list of 9 or 10 items but none of the links opened anything or prompted you where to go or what to do.

In addition to "Flight Assignments", what about adding instructions on the Fleet Library and Route Plotter pages as well. I know what they are for now, but my first few days within the DVA family were spent trying to figure out what the heck all of these links were for; mostly by trial and error.

Try to view each page from the perspective of someone that has opened it for the very first time trying to figure things out.

My $.02.

I've considered this, and I'm going to defer based on the amount of effort required to make the changes relative to the number of people who have reported an issue.
