All,
Following on from a meeting last night, it was felt that there may be need at AFVA/KLM for a stage 3 Boeing program.
Currently you can fly stage 2 to stage 5 in the Airbus without having to fly Boeing aircraft to progress through the ranks (A320,A330,A340,A380)
With Boeing, we only have stage 2 and 4 (B737 stage 2 and B777 and B747 in stage 4) so to progress into the 747 and 777 you must use a stage 3 Airbus program or one of the historicals.
The plan would be that we bring in a new 767 program at stage 3 for Boeing so that there is a clear Boeing career progression. We can justify this as both Air France and KLM used to fly 767's and we currently have a codeshare partner still operating them.
This would be a program stop gap for 2 years roughly and then the program will close in 2016 and a new stage 3, 787 program will take its place when they become operational real world with KLM.
As pilots your opinions really count so please vote either way on if you would like to see this change implemented.
Thanks,
Paul

I think this is a great idea. I've been discouraged by the fact that I have to fly an aircraft type with no decent addons, to progress through AFVA. Hopefully that won't be the case anymore with this.

I am not a fan of the 767 myself, but I understand that it's difficult for people that only know how to fly boeings or prefer boeing to get into the bigger aircraft. So i have voted for it :).

While I'm not against adding another program, I would like to point out that Air France pilots currently work their way up in A320 series aircraft, then the A330/340 before switching to 747/777 aircraft; then some end up back on the Airbus if they bid the A380.

I have voted for it- at DVA I was in the 767 program , the aircraft flies similar to the A330, also like Paul said, this gives pilots who prefer flying Boeing the opportunity to fly Boeing through stages 2-5, and gives them a chance to fly a longer distance Boeing before moving to the 777, etc. Air France , as the programs stand now, do allow pilots to get into the 737 program (stage 2) then 747/777 program (Stage 4), we do not have a stage 3 Boeing right now, which this program is intended to fix. Eventually pilots can go to stage 5 where they can opt to fly the A380 or B707. Airbus programs are A320 (Stage 2) A330 (Stage 3) A340 (Stage 4) A380 (Stage5) With the new program, pilots will have equal opportunity to fly Boeing/Airbus throughout all stages.

Paul,
I found as a B777 first officer that having to leave the airbus program, at
least temporarily looking forward to the A380, that it made me a better pilot in
having to learn how other heavy aircraft ,by different manufactures, both operate
and fly. I didn't like having to switch at first, but now I am glad that I
can fly both with a great deal of confidence. "Fly AFVA, a first class flight everytime." -Clarence McGaha

The idea is good. Would the former 767 routes also be added into the historic schedules, AFH & KLH?
