| Tour Briefing | A Redemption Loop Through the Lesser Antilles For decades, your Twin Otter — Otto — has been the Caribbean’s most enthusiastic participant in short‑field aviation. Not the most precise. Not the most compliant. But certainly the most enthusiastic. His reputation was built on a long list of “memorable” arrivals at the region’s most dramatic runways. Some pilots collect stickers; Otto collects strongly worded letters from airport authorities. After the incident at Saba (which the safety board now refers to only as “The Bounce Heard Round the Caribbean”), followed by the misunderstanding at St. Barth (involving a tailwind, a flock of startled pelicans, and a very animated controller), the regional aviation council finally stepped in. They didn’t revoke his privileges. They didn’t ground him. They did something far worse. They sentenced him to be polite. Thus was born Otto’s Caribbean Apology Tour: a full lap of the Lesser Antilles, starting and ending at St. Maarten, visiting every island exactly once, and demonstrating “professionalism” at each stop. The council framed it as a “goodwill initiative.” Otto calls it “community service with better scenery.” Of course, Otto interprets “apology tour” loosely. He’s not sorry. He’s just… present. And if the controllers along the way notice that his landings are a little smoother, his approaches a little more disciplined, and his radio calls slightly less chaotic, well, that’s not an apology. That’s just Otto proving he could behave all along… he just didn’t feel like it. Now he’s out to show the entire Lesser Antilles that he’s still the most charismatic troublemaker in the Caribbean sky - just one who’s trying (very loosely) to stay out of trouble. LEG 1 — TNCM → TQPF (St. Maarten → Anguilla) Status: Shockingly normal. Notes: Otto attempted a “polite” takeoff. The tower was so confused that they asked if we were a different aircraft. Landing at Anguilla was smooth enough that the FO checked the VSI twice. LEG 2 — TQPF → TUPJ (Anguilla → Tortola) Status: Scenic detour “for morale.” Notes: Otto insisted on flying the long way around to show off his wing dihedral to beachgoers. The crew pretended this was fine. LEG 3 — TUPJ → TIST (Tortola → St. Thomas) Status: ATC complimented the approach. Notes: Otto is now unbearable. He keeps replaying the compliment over the intercom. LEG 4 — TIST → TISX (St. Thomas → St. Croix) Status: Uneventful hop. Notes: Otto requested a “victory low pass.” Crew denied it. Otto expressed disappointment through passive‑aggressive torque settings. LEG 5 — TISX → TJIG (St. Croix → San Juan Isla Grande) Status: Gusty but graceful. Notes: Otto handled the crosswind like a pro, then bragged about it on frequency. The crew apologized to ATC on his behalf. LEG 6 — TJIG → TKPN (San Juan → Nevis) Status: First official “apology” attempt. Notes: Otto tried to demonstrate remorse via a feather‑soft landing. Passengers didn’t realize we’d touched down. Crew logged this as “progress.” LEG 7 — TKPN → TRPG (Nevis → Montserrat) Status: Volcano fly‑by successful. Notes: Otto circled Soufrière Hills “for educational purposes.” Crew suspects it was for Instagram pilots watching from the ground. LEG 8 — TRPG → TAPH (Montserrat → Barbuda) Status: Short runway, long sigh. Notes: Otto loves short strips but is forbidden from showing off. Landing was normal. Otto hated it. LEG 9 — TAPH → TFFM (Barbuda → Marie‑Galante) Status: French ATC: polite but unimpressed. Notes: Otto attempted to greet them in French. It came out as “bonjour, throttle idle.” The crew pretended the radio was scratchy. LEG 10 — TFFM → TDPD (Marie‑Galante → Dominica) Status: Mountain approach executed flawlessly. Notes: Otto loves terrain. Crew does not. FO requested a heart‑rate monitor for future arrivals in Dominica. LEG 11 — TDPD → TLPC (Dominica → St. Lucia) Status: Coastal hop, smooth landing. Notes: Otto behaved so well that the captain checked the circuit breakers to ensure nothing was malfunctioning. LEG 12 — TLPC → TBPB (St. Lucia → Barbados) Status: Otto is thrilled to have a “big island” again. Notes: Barbados ATC welcomed us warmly. Otto attempted a professional radio voice. It sounded like a 737 captain doing community theater. LEG 13 — TBPB → TVSB (Barbados → Bequia) Status: Otto’s happy place. Notes: Short runway, tight approach, turquoise water — Otto was vibrating with joy. Crew reminded him this is an apology tour, not a victory lap. Otto disagreed silently through the rudder pedals. LEG 14 — TVSB → TGPY (Bequia → Grenada) Status: Uneventful, which Otto considers an insult. Notes: Otto asked if he could “spice up the approach.” The crew said no. Otto complied but made his displeasure known via dramatic prop RPM fluctuations. LEG 15 — TGPY → TTCP (Grenada → Tobago) Status: Tropical perfection. Notes: Otto nailed the landing so well that the ground crew applauded. Otto pretended not to care but absolutely cared. LEG 16 — TTCP → TNCM (Tobago → St. Maarten) Status: Full lap complete. Notes: Otto requested a ceremonial low pass over Maho Beach. Crew denied it. Otto complied… but the flare was dramatic. ATC sighed audibly. |
