Major Equipment Program Updates |
Daniel Duhon |
Hello everyone,
There are several important updates in this article so bear with me!
Following a discussion between Senior Staff members, and the Chief Pilots, I have some exciting new updates to share with you regarding equipment programs. In order to follow current real-world trends and simplify our Equipment Programs, we are updating several programs and reorganizing management of them.
First off, I would like to announce the retirement of the A380 and updates to the Historical Program. Following the real world retirement of the A380 from the Air France Fleet, we have decided it is time to move the A380 to the Historical Fleet at AFVA. With this move, instead of adding it to the already long list of ratings in the DC-3 Program, we decided to also change up how the Historical Program is structured.
Effective immediately, the Historical program is now split into a Historical Props rating and a separate Historical Jets rating under the new A380 Program. These programs will be organized as follows:
The Historical Props Program will have the following Primary Aircraft:
DC-3, DC-4, DC-6, DC-6A, DC-6B, DC-7, DC-7C
As well as the following secondary ratings:
B1900, B377, BAE ATP, Br 763, CV-340, CV-440, Constellation, D.338, DC-2, DO-228, EMB-120, F100, F27, F28, F50, HS-748, JS41, L-10, L-100, L-188 Electra, MB.220, S-307, S340, SD-360, Super Connie
The Historical Props Program will remain a Stage 3 Program and is open to all Stage 2 Captains or higher.
The Historical Jets Program will now have the following Primary ratings:
A380-800, B707-120, B707-320, Caravelle
As well as the following secondary ratings:
A300-200, A300-600, A310, Avro RJ-85, B720, B727-100, B727-200, BAE-146, CV-880, CV-990, Comet, DC-10-10, DC-10-30, DC-10-30F, DC-10-40, DC-8-11, DC-8-21, DC-8-33, DC-8-42, DC-8-51, DC-8-61, DC-8-62, DC-8-63, DC-8-63AF, DC-8-71, DC-8-72, DC-9-14, DC-9-32, DC-9-40, DC-9-50, DO-328JET, F100, F70, L-1011-100, L-1011-500, MD-11, MD-11F
This program will replace the A380 Program and remain a Stage 5 Program, meaning you must be a Captain in Stage 4 before becoming eligible for these ratings.
The next update is an update to the B787-9 Program. In order to maintain consistency between type ratings, we have added the B757 and B767 families to be included in the B787-9 Program. These types are still used by Delta Airlines and Japan Airlines in our schedules. Pilots in the B787 program should have already received these extra ratings along with the update. If you do not have these ratings but believe you should, please submit a Help Desk Issue requesting these ratings and we will get them added to your profile.
Thirdly, we have updates for the A330 and A350 Programs. We have decided to merge these two programs into a single Stage 3 program. This program will contain the following Primary Ratings:
A330-200, A330-300, A330-900, A350-900
And the following Secondary Ratings:
A340-200, A340-300, A340-500, A340-600
This is to follow real life similarities between the aircraft and shared type ratings.
Lastly, following the above changes, we will have a few staff changes to accommodate this reorganization. After moving the A380 to the Historical Program, Frederic Honnart will be leading both Historical Programs as the Chief Pilot of these.
Leading the new combined A330/A350 Program is Teodor Negru as Chief Pilot.
Florian Barea will remian on Staff helping with PIREPs and filling in areas that are needed.
Brian Hankey and myself will no longer be required to maintain dual roles in Senior Staff and Chief Pilots so we will be focusing on our roles there.
Finally, I would like to reiterate that these changes will not remove ratings from pilots. If you already have the Historical Ratings, for example, you will retain any ratings you already have. If ratings have been added to your program, then you will receive those additional ratings as well. If you have any question, concerns, feedback, or issues, please submit a Help Desk Issue and we will answer all your questions individually!
We are excited for these changes and look forward to the future of this great VA!

VA News for the week! |
Alan Barber |
Hi Pilots
Gmail
Please be aware that we will be reducing the number of news items for a while. This is because we have incurred the wrath of the Gmail spam gods who have decreed that as the AFV email domain send out notification emails then it must be spamming. What would be of help is if pilots with a Gmail address can review their notification settings in their AFV profile and perhaps turn off notifications for News items, the latest ones are always at the top of the home page anyway.
Discord
A reminder to all that we have a very active Discord Server where you can ask questions about AFV, Flight Simming in general etc etc.
You can join here: https://discord.gg/FdQGM2p5
This link is valid for one week from today but a new link will be posted weekly.

AN-225 Tour Update |
Alan Barber |
Hi Pilots
Following the announcement for the 'Mriya' flight tour, we would like to make a clarification for using the AN-225. You do not need to request the rating. Simply select the AN-225 in ACARS, set up the route and flight number according to the tour briefing, and select 'Fly.' You may safely ignore the warning about not having the rating.
What we will do is check the tour participation periodically and assign you the AN-225 rating once you have filed the first leg so you won't have the pop-up every time. This will not need a special request. We hope you enjoy this special edition Flight Tour!

Announcing the 2023 Middle Earth Tour |
Daniel Duhon |
Hello all!
I am pleased to announce a new Tour available for all AFVA pilots starting February 8, 2023!
This tour will take you around both islands of New Zealand to see some spectacular views and give you the opportunity to visit some filming locations of the Lord of the Rings films! Be sure to review the Briefing document of this tour carefully as it has important information about the destinations along this tour.
I would also like to take this opportunity to point out a new NOTAM regarding flight tours: NOTAM #49. This NOTAM allows for exceptions to aircraft equipment type usage on flight tours and is referenced in the briefing for this Flight Tour.
