49 | 01/19/2023 | Equipment Use in Flight Tours - Updated |
Effective Date: January 19, 2024 Scope: All pilots NOTAM: In order to make flight tours more accessible to all pilots, we have decided to relax the normal requirements for using equipment types for flight tours. This means that if you want to fly a tour that requires a long flight, then we will allow pilots to use an appropriate equipment type for the route regardless of their rating with the following conditions:
The purpose of this NOTAM is to notify everyone of this change and to allow more flexibility to those pilots who are just starting out and want to participate in our flight tours. Read each flight tour briefing carefully to determine if this NOTAM applies to each specific tour. Best, AFVA/KLM Staff |

48 | 01/09/2023 | MSFS Additional Aircraft Authorization Ending February 1st |
Effective Date: February 1, 2023
Scope: All pilots who use MSFS NOTAM: Following the release of MSFS 2020, we added the Citation Longitude and TBM 930 as a temporary authorization for pilots who use the new simulator. The purpose of this original authorization was to allow more flexibility while there were few aircraft choices available for MSFS. In the initial authorization, it was stated that this was temporary until there was more availability for adding in the MSFS platform. After reviewing the current state of the platform as it has matured more, we have decided to end the temporary authorization effective February 1st. Any flight reports between now and February 1st using these two aircraft are allowed, but after February 1st we will be removing the types and flight reports with them will no longer be accepted. Keep in mind the original rules still apply: these two aircraft are ONLY allowed in MSFS. |

46 | 05/19/2021 | Charter Policy Update 5/19/2021 |
This NOTAM adds on to the charter policy from NOTAM#44.
The new policy is to address the addition of a new "Request Charter Flight" form on the website, and to update the previous procedure. The rules stated in NOTAM 44 are still in effect with the following modifications: 1) Bailout Charters and single leg charters will use the new form on the website INSTEAD of a Help Desk ticket, using the Comments section to state your reason for requesting the charter. 2) Full charters with more than one leg or legs that include non-scheduled airports will still require a Help Desk ticket to be submitted in the same format as before. This NOTAM is to clarify the update to the website, and make pilots aware of the new feature. Also, be sure to reference NOTAM 44 for the rest of the charter rules. 45 | 08/17/2020 | MSFS Support (Updated) |
Update - ACARS support has been implemented for all AFVA flights. Please make sure to update your ACARS to at least ACARS 3.4 Build 150 Beta 15. This is the first version that incorporates MSFS Support. Manual PIREPs for MSFS (showing a different sim) will be accepted until MSFS support has been released as Build 151
With the much-anticipated release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 on the 18th August, there will be no ACARS support for this sim due to compatibility issues between MSFS and ACARS and the lack of FSUIPC or Simconnect support at release, If you want to use the new sim to fly AFVA flights these can be submitted as a MANUAL PIREP, and you must add the comment "MSFS2020". Note: All Normal flight rules apply (Flight in the schedule, you are airframe type rated etc). |

44 | 05/28/2018 | New Air France/KLM Charter Policy Effective May 28th 2018 (UPDATED JUNE 21, 2022) |
PLEASE READ IN FULL AND CAREFULLY
This policy supersedes and replaces NOTAM#32 previously in effect. This updated charter policy is designed to give you, the pilots more freedom when requesting charter flights The process starts of course with the Pilot(s) requesting a charter via the Help Desk which is the correct procedure of course. From May 28th 2018 there are going to be changes to charter rules (UPDATED June 21, 2022). There will be two options available, the bailout charter (For connected logbook pilots) and the full charter The Connecting Logbook Bail Out charter is aimed at Pilots flying connecting logbooks and are unable to continue this due to arriving at an airport with no outbound flights or needing to tick off an unvisited airport with no inbound flights. If this happens you are permitted to execute a Bail Out Charter – HOWEVER, you will only be returned to your last departure airport for example if you flew Paris CDG to Oslo but there was no return flight, the Bail Out Charter will send you back from Oslo to Paris CDG, you will NOT be permitted to fly to any other destination period, if you wish to fly out to somewhere else then that is perfectly fine however you will need to request a full charter Please be aware that we need up to 48 hours notice for a charter request, so plan ahead. It may not take 48 hours but please remember staff are not permanently on hand to deal with help desk tickets How to request a Bail Out Charter? Simply go to the Help Desk and enter BAIL OUT CHARTER Request in the subject and tell me where you are stuck or will be stuck and where you have/will be flying in from I will then just send you back to that destination – Job Done. Full Charter 1) The full charter is where you request flights that are not in the schedules. 2) The charter can be from anywhere to anywhere, there is however a max of 10 legs per charter request. 3) Any charter request above 10 legs will be at Senior Staff discretion so may or may not be approved, please provide a detailed reason for the request to give us all the information we need to make a justifiable decision on whether to grant the charter or not. 4) Each pilot will only be able to request 10 charter legs every two months (Excluding bailout charters) 5) It must contain a number of airports, from which at least 50% of the airports must be airports AFVA and partners currently operates scheduled flights to. 6) It must NOT contain any military airfields or aerodromes. To process a full charter we will need the following information. 1) Date you wish to start the charter 2) Aircraft Frame you will fly during the charter (These can be substituted on the actual flights) 3) Details of each leg of the charter 4) Your reason for requesting the charter OK that’s the 4 mandatory bits I need, if any of them are missing your charter will not be issued, it will be your responsibility to insure all the information is correct. If any data is missing I will reject it there and then, I will not chase you for the information. The following is MANDATORY when requesting a full charter Full Airport Name Country IATA Code (3-letter) ICAO Code (4-letter) Time Zone We need that information for all Airports you intend to visit even if the Airport is already served. This information is what we need to add airports to the database should you request a destination not already in the system. IF none or only part of the information above is not provided then the request will be denied. Below is an example on what the layout of the request should look like. Example (Help Desk Subject) – Full Charter Request – (Pilots Name and PID) Hi, can I request a full charter. Start Date – 28th May 2018 Aircraft – Boeing 787-9 Number of Legs – 5 ---- Paris CDG – Montreal – San Francisco – Honolulu – Sydney. Reason for the Charter – I am flying this route in Real World and would like to recreate it in flight sim Airport Details. Paris Charles de Gaulle France CDG LFPG CET (GMT +1) Montreal-Dorval Quebec Canada YUL CYUL ET (GMT -5) San Francisco California USA SFO KSFO PT (GMT -8) Honolulu Hawaii USA HNL PHNL Hawaii (GMT -10) Sydney Australia SYD YSSY NSWT (GMT +10) Thank you for your time, look forward to your response. PLEASE NOTE – Once a charter is in your logbook you have 14 days to fly it, it must be flown connected and no other flights can be logged until it is complete Kind Regards Brian Hankey Silvian Baltac Paul Hale Senior Staff Air France/KLM Virtual Airlines |

43 | 10/16/2017 | Changes to current NOTAMs and AFVA Operational Policies |
As the AFVA Senior Staff recognises changes in technology and operational policy of the Virtual Airline, this NOTAM completes, updates and supersedes the information contained in the previous NOTAMs, as follows:
1) NOTAM 42 regarding Concorde flights: In order to avoid confusion, the there-mentioned AFH Concorde Flights (9201-9240) are now renamed and collectively contained under the Air France Concorde (AFC) airline indicative. The Concorde remains the only type allowed to be flown on AFC flights. 3) NOTAM 34 regarding the clean speeds on long-hauls operated by Heavy aircraft AFVA now allows that any flight in a heavy aircraft (747, 767, 777, 787, A330, A340, A350, A380, MD-11 + historical type ratings) over 6 hrs (not 5.7, 5.8 or 5.9) will be allowed to exceed 250 in clean configurations (flaps/slats up) with a 10% grace margin. This would allow pilots to fly up to 275 KIAS in clean under 10,000 feet. The pilots will be required to cite the clean speed in the comments section. This also applies only to climb out but not descent or landing. Anything more than 275 KIAS will be held for an explanation with possibility of rejection. 4) NOTAM 22 regarding AFVA Diversion Policy: a. AFVA now accepts return to the origin airport due to mechanical failure or bad weather at destination. The landing must be performed safely and the aircraft must not be overweight. b. diversions due to low fuel levels are allowed as long as the pilot recognises the issue in due time and lands with the legal reserves. An investigation in the low-fuel event will be conducted and the flights will be approved on an one-to-one basis. c. Pilots must divert to only suitable airports for the flown airframe and must continue to the initial destination airport in order to gain credit for the diversion. d. Pilots must file two PIREPs for the diversion event: one from the origin to the diversion airfield followed by a separate report from the diversion airport to the original destination. Landings followed by on-ground refuelling and subsequent take-offs in the same PIREP will not be allowed. 5) NOTAM 20 regarding X-Plane use on AFVA flights: This NOTAM has been CANCELLED as the advances in ACARS now allow X-Plane compatibility, making it possible to use X-Plane to file regular PIREP and during Check Rides. The latest version on our ACARS can be downloaded from our fleet library and a full installation and X-Plane troubleshooting guide can be found on our Forums. Please refer to the mentioned NOTAMs for any other operational rules that may still be in place. AFVA Senior Staff |

42 | 02/27/2015 | New Concorde Flights |
All,
Following the introduction of 239 new Concorde legs yesterday it was felt that we needed a new NOTAM to cover the rules of these flights. These legs represent the real life Air France round the world tours that operated in the 1990's and early 2000's, they were unique, one off flights but as they have been flown in real life we could add them to our Historical schedule. Please note, due to the uniqueness of these flights, Senior Staff and Operations Staff decided that these legs can only be flown with Concorde and no other airframe. Flights AFH9201-AFH9240 are the flights in question. Flying these trips with any aircraft other than Concorde will result in a held PIREP with rejection the likely outcome. Some of these trips are very long and with a good deal of subsonic cruise, although Concorde made these trips in real life, we are currently unsure of how fuel burns etc will work in the simulation world. If you are flying one of these trips and fuel becomes a big issue, please divert to the nearest suitable diversion airfield and file your flight then continue on from the diversion airport to your destination with the next leg, staff will then view the reports and judge each one on its own merits. This should only be an issue on a handful of these legs and may not affect any at all, I will be testing a few of the longer trips in the next week myself and will change some rules only if needed. Enjoy the flights, Paul Hale Vice President Of Operations Air France/KLM Virtual Airlines |

40 | 11/01/2014 | Freighter Range |
With the "Cargo Hauler" accomplishment significantly increasing the usage of Freighter variants at AFVA, it is important to note that Freighter variants of aircraft generally have a shorter maximum range than the passenger versions.
All Freighters that we have access to have had their ranges checked in their individual aircraft profiles to be accurate and as such with immediate effect any PIREP's that are submitted exceeding the published range will be held with the possibility of rejection. Statistics have been taken from a variety of sources including official Boeing documentation so should be accurate or very close to accurate, however if you spot any discrepancies please email me with a link to your source and i will look into correcting the values. Freighter ranges are as follows:- B747-200F, 3615 Nautical Miles B747-400F, 4445 Nautical Miles B747-400ERF, 4970 Nautical miles B767-300F, 3226 Nautical Miles B777-200F, 4899 Nautical Miles DC10-30F, 3276 Nautical Miles MD11-F, 3952 Nautical miles Best Regards, Paul Hale Vice president Of Operations. |

39 | 09/19/2014 | London City (EGLC / LCY) Operations Reminder |
Updating a Forum post from September 2013, we are upgrading this to a full NOTAM to ensure that all pilots are aware.
While we like to give you as much freedom as possible when flying with AFVA, At London City Airport we operate a Real World policy due to the nature and uniqueness of this airport. To qualify for PIREP approval an aircraft should fit into one of the Airport’s Noise Categories and be capable of making an approach at 5.5 degrees or steeper (this compares with 3 degrees at most other airports). The following list are the ONLY aircraft you are permitted to fly into and out of London City whilst logging an AFVA flight. Airbus A318 BAE 146/Avro RJ family BAE 41 Jetstream ATR 72 Bombardier Q Series/DHC Dash 8 Dornier Do328 Embraer 120 Embraer 135 Embraer 145 Embraer 1705 Embraer 175 Embraer 195 Embraer 190 Fokker 50 Fokker 70 Saab 340 Saab 2000 Use of ANY other Airframe will lead to a held flight and Probable PIREP rejection. |
||
38 | 06/15/2014 | Winair Codeshare Flights. |
Please note that all Winair flights must be flown with the new DHC6 Twin Otter rating.
This is due to the nature of the airports and runway lengths involved. Any Winair flight that is not flown with the DHC6 will be held with the possibility of being rejected. Enjoy the flights. Best regards, Paul Hale Vice President Of Operations, Air France/KLM virtual airlines. phale@afva.net |

37 | 05/22/2014 | Flights to Madagascar, New Caledonia and French Polynesia |
The following NOTAM will take effect immediately.
While we like to offer all of out pilots the freedom to fly any aircraft they are rated in on any given route, we felt that the rules needed to be changed for the above destinations. This is due to the fact that we have seen recent examples of pilots flying unsuitable aircraft into Madagascar, New Caledonia and French Polynesia. After staff discussions the following rules will now apply moving forwards:- Madagascar: There are a wide variety of different runway surfaces in Madagascar (Asphalt/Concrete,Dirt,Sand and Grass) The aircraft you choose to fly must be suitable for the surface it is landing/departing from and runway lengths must also be taken into consideration. New Caledonia and French Polynesia: All runways have Asphalt/Concrete surfaces but the majority of these are on small remote islands with short and very narrow runways, therefore aircraft selection is again vital. While it may be perfectly possible to land a heavy jet at one of these airports in flight simulator, It is extremely unrealistic to do so and would be impossible to turn around and backtrack to the terminal if needed, also the terminals and taxiways are not big enough to handle large jets. Please research the airports you are flying to before you fly and use suitable aircraft for your flights. This website is a great tool for finding out the information you may need http://www.gcmap.com/airport/FMMA Any use of aircraft deemed to be unsuitable when flying within the above destinations will result in the PIREP being put on hold with the possibility of the flight being rejected. Best Regards, Paul Hale Vice President Of Operations Air France/KLM Virtual Airlines. |
||
36 | 05/19/2014 | Time Acceleration |
Time Acceleration may be used on AFVA flights up to 2x, however the following rules apply:-
1. Time Acceleration use on qualifying flights towards Captaincy is allowed but the flight will count only as a normal leg , it will NOT give you leg credit towards becoming a Captain. To become eligible for the captains exam you are required to fly 10 legs with a minimum length of 150 Statute miles(This may vary from airframe to airframe) without ANY use of time acceleration. 2. Time Acceleration on Vatsim of 2x is allowed in uncontrolled airspace as long as it does not put any other aircraft in danger, If however you are in controlled airspace you must request permission from the controller to use time acceleration and wait for that request to be granted BEFORE use. Best Regards, Paul Hale, Vice President Of Operations, Air France/KLM Virtual Airlines |

35 | 09/07/2013 | Updated Concorde flight rules. |
This NOTAM overrules any other previous NOTAM's on Concorde Flight Rules at AFVA
Effective immediately the rules on supersonic Concorde flight will change. You will still NOT be permitted to fly Supersonic over land while flying Concorde, however each flight will now be graded on it's own merits rather than sticking to one hard and fast rule. • We will now take into consideration real world Concorde activity, and you will be able to fly over designated populated areas that were allowed in Concorde in real world operations. • Flying Supersonic overland will NOT be allowed under instruction from 3rd party ATC controllers (Vatsim, IVAO etc) As the Pilot in command you have the power to reject any such requests and to stay within the AFVA rules. • You can fly supersonic over unpopulated Islands but please do your research first and if in doubt message a member of staff for confirmation before making your flight. • Flights will not be rejected if you accidently cross land at low supersonic speeds but may be held for clarification as to why this happened. • You will now be able to apply for the Concorde rating as long as you are, or have previously been a stage 4 or stage 5 captain (Previously the rule was for stage 5 captains only). The reason for these rule changes is that Concorde used to be the flagship of the Air France fleet and flown very frequently within the airline but is not being widely used at AFVA at the current time. We hope that by relaxing the flight rules and entry requirements to become a Concorde rated pilot that this wonderful plane will again become a popular and regular visitor to our virtual skies. To request the Concorde rating please make sure you meet the requirements as stated above and then submit a help desk ticket.A member of staff will then issue you with the Concorde Checkride which needs to be flown within 14 days. Paul Hale Vice president, Operations Air France Virtual Airlines. |

34 | 05/31/2013 | 10000ft 250kts rule |
The following NOTAM will take immediate effect.
The 10000ft 250kt rules have been updated for all AFVA pilots. PIREPs with speeds between 250kts and 255kts will be approved and will be passed with no questions. Any PIREP with any significant breach above 250kts, the following may occur. 1) Immediate correction that is identified will be approved. 2) Consistent speed above 250, PIREP will be on hold for clarification and possible rejection. Short haul Flights: 250kts-255kts PIREP’s will be approved and will be passed with no questions. Any PIREP with any SIGNIFICANT breach above 250kts will be put on hold for clarification and possible rejection. Medium and Long haul flights: 250kts-255kts PIREP’s will be approved and will be passed with no questions. The rule for medium and long haul flights (Even in heavy aircraft) will be EXACTLY the same as that for short haul flights. Even if you are flying a 747 on a 7000 mile flight the 250kt/10000ft rule WILL still apply. The ONLY exception to this rule will now be if you are flying online (Vatsim or IVAO) and you are given permission by the ATC controller in charge of your airspace to proceed beyond 250 kts to be able to gain a clean configuration speed. If this happens it needs to be noted in the pilot’s comments section so the flight grader is aware of this happening. Any flights that are either offline or online (but not under the jurisdiction of ATC) must adhere to the 250kt/10000ft rule. If you are flying a heavy aircraft (747,777,MD11,A340 etc) you will need if necessary to use the minimum amount of flaps required to maintain 250 kts or below until passing 10000ft and then going into a clean configuration. This rule is being changed as it has been a “Grey Area” for some time now and is making it increasingly hard for flight graders to be consistent, by using a blanket 250kts/10000ft rule across the board consistency in flight grading will be assured on this particular rule. Note to Pilots. All though these guide lines have been issued this does not mean a pilot has the green light to fly 255kts on every PIREP he files, staff will be looking out for any trends and this will result in PIREP’S being put on hold. Pilots are asked to keep to the 250kt/10000ft rule wherever possible, if you fly your aircraft correctly none of the above will apply and your PIREP will be approved with no problems. Paul Hale Vice-President (Operations) Air France Virtual Airlines phale@afva.net |

30 | 03/18/2011 | New Online flight requirements |
Pilots,
In an effort to further refine our flight hour system, the staff is making some changes to the requirements for a flight to be considered online - a.k.a on VATSIM or IVAO. The requirements are listed below: 1. For flights 8 hours and under, you will be required to be online 75% of the time for your flight to count as online. 2. For flights 8 hours to 12 hours, you will be required to be online 50% of the time for your flight to count as online. 3. For any flights over 12 hours, you will only be required to be online 35% of the time for your flight to count as online. For example, if your flight is 10 hours in length you will need to be online for approximately 5 hours. We are making these changes to more accurately reflect the title of a flight being flown on VATSIM or IVAO. These changes will become effective Monday, March 21st, 2011. Questions should be directed to the Operations Department. Steve Orloff Vice President of Operations Air France Virtual Airline www.afva.net |

29 | 03/09/2011 | B737-700BBJ rating active |
Pilots,
Effective immediately, you will be required to file flight report with the equipment type B737-700BBJ1 for any flights outside of the normal B737-700's range. For example, if you were to fly KLM664 (KIAH - EHAM) you are now required to file the flight report using the B737-700BBJ1, instead of the B737-700 under the old system. All pilots currently in the B737 program have had their ratings updated. Any pilots earning the B737 ratings will also receive the B737-700BBJ1. All pilots currently rated in the B737 but NOT in the B737 program should create a help desk issue to get the B737-700BBJ1 added to their profile. Happy flying! Steve Orloff Vice President of Operations Air France Virtual Airlines sorloff@afva.net |

27 | 04/17/2010 | Cargo Operations active |
Pilots,
Air France Virtual Airlines is proud to announce the beginning of our Cargo Operations! In conjunction with the real world Air France/KLM Cargo Operations, the B747-400ERF and the B777-200LRF profiles have been added to the website. These ratings will come with the B747 and B777 program ratings, respectively. Pilots already rated in the B747 and/or B777 have had the ratings added to their profile; there will not be a separate check ride or exam for the cargo variants. We are currently in the process of changing the equipment listed on cargo routes from passenger to cargo variants. However, any route can be flown with a cargo aircraft as long as the aircraft can safely make the flight. Remember, cargo aircraft have a much shorter range! Any questions should be directed to the operations department. |
||
23 | 01/22/2010 | ACARS Policy |
Pilots,
Effective immediately Air France Virtual Airlines will no longer require pilots fly 100% of their flights on ACARS. However, listed below will be the stipulations attached to this rule. 1. Non-ACARS flights will not count towards required flight legs for promotion. 2. Promotion eligible flights shall be ACARS submitted, and comply with the 150NM minimum distance flight leg for promotion. 3. Manual PIREP's will be accepted. However, they must comply with all scheduling parameters (i.e. no off schedule flights without authorization from the Operations Department). Our ultimate goal here at AFVA is to provide a fun and relaxed atmosphere for all. We realize that our software will not immediately work on all computers, and we feel by relaxing this rule we will be giving you, the pilots, a better experience. Should you have any questions regarding this rule, please contact the operations department. Our e-mail can be found on the "Our Staff" section of the website.
